Does Soaking Actually Clean Your Dentures?

Posted on 6/20/2019 by Salem Dental Arts
Does Soaking Actually Clean Your Dentures? You likely already know that you should remove your dentures and soak them overnight. Doing this helps keep them pliable and soft, and reduces the discomfort you might otherwise experience when you wear them all day long. However, soaking your dentures provides another benefit, one that is frequently overlooked.

Proper use of denture soaking solutions can help you keep your dentures clean. While nothing will replace the use of a proper brush and cleaning technique, the soaking stage of the dental care regimen can be a valuable part of your cleaning procedure.

Soaking Dentures with a Cleaning Solution

You probably keep your dentures in clean water overnight or whenever you are not wearing them for an extended period of time. This is good; however, to really get them clean, you should consider using a denture cleaning solution.

There are a number of commercially created solutions available. The best ones are the ones that use a special solution to gently lift stains and kill bacteria. This, in turn, makes it easier for you to keep the dentures looking good and operating properly.

Why Use a Cleaning Solution?

Using a good brush and regularly brushing your dentures is a key part of maintaining them. However, brushing by itself is not enough. Just as with your natural teeth, your dentures have some crevices where you may have a tough time reaching just using a brush.

In contrast, a good cleaning solution will permeate the dentures, reaching into all the nook and crannies, killing odor-causing bacteria and gently removing stains from foods and beverages. Because of this, the best denture care regimen combines proper brushing with regular soaks in a good cleaning solution.

So, when it comes to denture care, be sure that you do not skimp on the soaking. Your dentures will look better and last longer because of it.
