If trimming your teeth sounds scary, our prosthodontists are here to assure you that they are nowhere near as hard as they sound. It's quite simply the removal of enamel from your teeth. The procedure has become popular for both cosmetic and functional reasons as it not only reshapes the tooth and gives the tooth structure an even look but also dramatically improves the patient's smile.
Trimming is suggested after a comprehensive look at the condition of the tooth. If we find that the enamel has decayed, trimming is an excellent way to nip the problem in the bud. The procedure is also apt when there is overcrowding of teeth that can lead to serious problems later. Trimming can realign the teeth with the right amount of space in between. In some instances, one or a couple of teeth could be elongated, that a simple procedure of trimming will be able to resolve.
Since a significant proportion of those who opt for tooth trimming has a cosmetic reason behind it, dental veneers are suggested for greater efficacy. Dental veneers are ultra-thin layers made of porcelain or other materials that cover the exterior surface of the teeth. They are malleable enough to be adjusted to the shapes and texture of the particular tooth. An added advantage of veneers made of porcelain is that they look remarkably similar to the other teeth. It has to be kept in mind that although veneers and crowns may look similar, they have different functions and resistance levels.
If there is a visible chip in any of your teeth or a misshapen tooth, a simple tooth trimming procedure at our facilities could correct that condition. In three sessions, you will be walking out with a brand new smile.
